Meet the people behind Restore Physiotherapy.
Joel graduated from the University of Melbourne with Honours in 2006 and completed his postgraduate Master's Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2011. As a passionate learner, he holds multiple degrees in Sport Science (Human Movement) and Education.
Joel has a special interest in sports, adolescent and spinal injuries, as well as exercise and functional rehabilitation post-surgery or injury. He has travelled to the USA on several occasions to further enhance his knowledge of post-knee injury rehabilitation.
Joel has extensive experience in the elite sporting landscape, having worked in the AFL for eight years, including as Head Physiotherapist at the Melbourne Football Club in 2020. He is also involved in educating physiotherapy students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University of Melbourne.
Mary graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. With extensive experience in hospitals and private practices, she is well-equipped with strong diagnostic and treatment skills.
Mary has a special interest in biomechanics of movement dysfunction and corrective exercise therapy. Her special interests include shoulder dysfunction, muscle imbalance around the pelvis, and prenatal and postnatal care. She lends her expertise in lecturing undergraduate physiotherapy students for both La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne.
Stuart is a Director at Restore with 18 years of clinical experience and a postgraduate Master's Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. He has extensive experience in sports physiotherapy, having worked at the AFL level for 10 years, and currently works as a part-time physiotherapist for the Richmond Football Club.
Stuart has a clinical special interest in the management of groin pain, spinal pain and lower limb injuries in young athletes. At Restore, Stuart enjoys working with adolescents who aspire to be their best in their chosen sport. He strives to provide effective hands-on treatment, individualised exercise programs, and communicate effectively with all his patients.
Tamara graduated in 1992 and tutored at Trinity College Melbourne University until 1997, while working as the senior ICU/Cardiac surgery physio at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Tamara then worked in private practice in Collins St and with the Australian Ballet School as well as in Community health before completing the Post Graduate Diploma pelvic floor & and continence physiotherapy (Melbourne University) in 2000.
Tamara has focused on clinical excellence and compassion as a pelvic floor physiotherapist for 25 years and has tutored at Melbourne University on the Post Graduate course since 2010. Tamara has a keen interest in treating Women with vulvodynia and men and women with chronic pelvic pain.
Tamara works closely with many Urological surgeons, Uro-gynaecologists, Gynaecologists and Colorectal surgeons, with a strong philosophy of multi-disciplinary care. Tamara worked at the Royal Women’s Hospital as a senior Clinician, working in the Vulval disorders Obstetric outpatient and continence clinics.
Tamara has experience in many private Practices and as senior physiotherapist at the Royal children’s hospital, Mercy hospital for women, Frances Perry house, St Vincent’s, Cabrini, Freemasons, North Park hospital and Locums. In 2014 Tamara travelled with an Aus Aid Urology team coordinated by the College of Surgeons, to the Soloman islands, to help establish a Continence clinic there – a project she is thrilled to have been involved with.
Tamara’s passions include gardening, swimming, bushwalking, cross country skiing, reading, attending theatre and musical productions and mostly socialising with friends. In recent years mental health advocacy and fundraising for research, have been a key focus for Ambers White Light, a charity she cofounded (Amberswhitelight.au).
Anna holds a Master's Degree in Sports Physiotherapy from La Trobe University and has worked at Restore Physiotherapy since 2012 as our resident Sports Physiotherapist. Her extensive experience includes providing physio services to WAFL and VFL football teams, as well as working with ballet dancers, tennis players, baseball players, and rugby teams.
Anna’s particular interest is in treating sporting and adolescent injuries as well as helping her clients achieve the best possible outcomes from their injuries with specific exercise-based rehabilitation. She incorporates manual physiotherapy treatment, dry needling, and clinical exercise prescription into her treatment to help her clients return to what they love doing as quickly as possible.
Bianca holds a Doctorate in Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne and a degree in Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University. Her experience includes working with local football teams in the VAFA and as an Exercise Physiologist.
As someone who has sustained numerous injuries playing competitive netball, Bianca’s special interest lies in injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as treating various sports-related injuries. She believes that a holistic approach to treatment is essential to achieve the best outcomes.
Elena has a strong sporting background in basketball, football, netball and rowing. With a passion for health and anatomy, she pursued her studies at La Trobe University and currently holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science and a Master's of Physiotherapy Practice.
Elena’s experience includes working as a basketball coach and a sports trainer for her local football club. She has a special interest in injury prevention and management through manual therapy, exercise prescription, and Pilates, and is dedicated to promoting health and an active lifestyle.
Alessandra graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Master of Physiotherapy. She is a dedicated physiotherapist with a passion for helping patients achieve their goals by providing tailored care.
Alessandra believes in a holistic, evidence-based approach to physiotherapy. Drawing on her experience with local football and soccer teams, she combines manual therapy with strength and conditioning principles to create personalised rehabilitation programs. Alessandra has a particular interest in injury prevention and is passionate about helping clients build resilience and return to the activities they love.
Andy graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Physiotherapy. Having come from a football background and participated in high-level athletic competitions, Andy has a keen interest in all sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries, as well as chronic injuries and pain management.
Andy is passionate about treating a wide range of injuries and impairments, with a focus on empowering and educating his clients. Using a combination of manual therapy and individualised exercise programs, he endeavours to create the best outcomes.
Dr Zeeshan Arain (Zee) is a Sports Medicine specialist at Restore Physiotherapy. Zee obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 2003 from Monash University. He also holds a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPHTM) from James Cook University and has been a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for over a decade.
Zee has 20 years of experience working across a range of medical fields, including emergency medicine, as a medical educator at Monash University, General Practice (with a focus on preventative medicine and nutrition), concussion research at AFL House, and sports medicine, having worked at various leading sports medicine clinics in Melbourne.
Zee’s experience with elite sport and related medical attention is vast, including serving as the head doctor for Melbourne Demons AFL club for 8 years, consultant doctor for the Malaysian Olympic track cycling team, and as game-day doctor for the Melbourne Storm NRL team in 2022.
Zee is available at Restore for all sports medicine, musculoskeletal, and related issues, taking a holistic approach to patient-centred care. He remains up to date with the latest research and performs ultrasound-guided injections and interventions.
